The Pincushion Table Lamp – Playful geometry, sculptural warmth
Inspired by the vibrant burst of the native pincushion protea, this table lamp celebrates structure, symmetry, and natural form. Standing at 30cm tall, the Pincushion features a slim base that gently evolves into a fuller, rounded midsection before tapering elegantly at the top — cradling the bulb in its sculptural heart.
The standout feature of this design is its layered construction: finely laser-cut vertical wooden slats are carefully fixed into two angled circular frames, creating a modern cage-like structure with a botanical sensibility. Light passes through these angled slats, casting soft, dappled shadows while giving the lamp a subtle glow that shifts with your perspective.
The bulb (we recommend a warm ‘exposed filament’) is positioned centrally within the lamp’s open frame — allowing it to glow freely from within while being framed by the radiating wooden elements. This setup doesn’t aim to flood a space with light; instead, it offers a calming ambient atmosphere, ideal for evening lounging, bedrooms, or creative corners where mood matters more than brightness.
Perfect as a feature piece on a side table, bookshelf, or console, the Pincushion adds dimension and character to any room. Available in a range of finishes — from natural wood tones to painted black, greys and metallics — this lamp balances handcraft with precision, playfulness with structure.
Each piece is handcrafted in South Africa by AssembLIT, combining digital precision with warm human detail. The Pincushion Table Lamp is more than lighting — it’s functional sculpture.
